Safeguarding Training & Review For Board
Prior to the Meeting:
Board Reviews Safeguarding Policy (including Code of Conduct)
At the meeting:
Discuss four main categories of child abuse: physical abuse, emotional abuse, sexual abuse, neglect
Review Safeguarding Structure (divisional teams overseen by DSL)
Review what happens when a child discloses
Show the flow chart of what happens after disclosure
Acknowledge our Keeping Children Safe Certification and outside resources we use when questions arise.
Discuss Safeguarding in hiring/recruiting and that training is provided.
*Role of Safeguarding Liaison (1-2 meetings a year)
NSPCC suggests having a Board liaison with the Safeguarding Lead to support and be aware of overarching safeguarding at the school.
Ensure the school has, and implements, child protection and safeguarding policies
Ensure the policies are reviewed and updated regularly
Discuss changes (i.e., new training, practices, etc.)
Report to the Board about the effectiveness of safeguarding at the school (i.e., the school is following its procedures as outlined in the policy)
The liaison is not involved at the individual case level, nor will they be able to learn identifying information around specific cases.
Review the work of the Safeguarding Committee
Review policies in place for those most at risk (toileting policy/biting police, behavior plans)
Review various trainings provided (in Thai, online, coaches, students, etc.)
Examples of questions the Liaison might ask:
What do we do with external organizations that support our students?
How do we teach students about keeping themselves safe?
What training do we provide for students working with younger students?
What type of training does the non-ISB staff have when working on campus with ISB students?
What have you been working on, or plan to work on?
