School counselors play a critical role in supporting student safety, wellbeing, and emotional health within ISB’s safeguarding framework. Counselors help create trusted relationships where students feel safe seeking support, sharing concerns, and accessing help when needed. Counselors work collaboratively with the Safeguarding Committee, administrators, teachers, and families to identify and respond to student wellbeing and safeguarding concerns. They support prevention, early intervention, risk assessment, crisis response, and ongoing student support while maintaining appropriate professional and ethical boundaries. Counselors are an essential part of ISB’s collaborative safeguarding approach and help ensure students receive timely, compassionate, and appropriate support.
Key responsibilities include:
Supporting students’ social-emotional wellbeing and safety
Identifying and responding to safeguarding concerns
Collaborating with safeguarding teams and school leadership
Providing crisis support, risk assessment, and safety planning when appropriate
Supporting referrals to outside providers and community resources
Delivering preventative education related to wellbeing, safety, and healthy relationships
Maintaining documentation and communication aligned with safeguarding procedures
Helping students understand help-seeking, confidentiality, and available supports
